Waste Management / Recycling

Caltech is committed to making positive steps in the reduction and management of waste in Timor-Leste.

With a strong belief that the earth was not received from our parents but borrowed from our children, Caltech considers the potential impact on the environment in all its business decisions.

Caltech’s recycling program includes:

  • Paper/cardboard
  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Timber and wood products
  • PET bottles and any plastic products
  • Anything else that can be recycled or reused

In 2018, more than 50 truck-loads of waste products were recycled or re-used. To our knowledge, Caltech is the only company in Timor-Leste segregating waste before disposal and the first company to produce recycled plastic products.

Since December 2019, Caltech has been producing paving tiles made from recycled plastics and sand, with more than 1.5 million PET bottles having been recycled in the nine months following.
